The biggest question of all.

Cro-Magnon or modern man came from no where to take over Neanderthal, and Neanderthal just dissappeared.

Where did Cro-Magnon come from ?

Why did Neanderthal just dissappear ?

I think it's always been assumed that with a bigger brain and being more human-like, Cro-Magnon eventually out-competed Neanderthal. Others say one kind killed off the other, or they interbred.

Last spring, they think they discovered a language gene, something we have and Neanderthal had it too. You'd think the bipeds with the so-called language gene would outdo the ones without language. Here's an article about that discovery and it also talks about how Neanderthal probably ranged farther than thought before. With a so-called language gene and the intelligence and cooperation it takes to range far, it makes them seem a lot less like stodgy "Clan of Cave Bear" brutes.

But soleclip, you are right, the big question is, from where did Cro-Magnon pop up?

Well Mary,

If I understood a History Channel program correctly, the appearance of Cro-Magnon was very sudden.

Cro-Magnon was modern man. They had language, painted cave pictures, made clothes, etc.

Where Cro-Magnon came from is not know.

I feel like Cro-Magnon was planted on Earth by UFO's and aliens.

We could be more alien than we think !

That could be right where Cro-Magnon popped up from, soleclip! Yes, that is what I have always heard, they seemed to come in suddenly.

In that case, are they The Gods, with ancient monuments pointing this out, as Graham Hancock suggests? I think Hancock thinks there is a connection with Orion, though, so I think he too thinks aliens are from space.

If aliens intervened on us and they still do so, it may not make a lot of difference where they come from.

But let's suppose the multiverse is a fact, time is a measure of change and it's not linear, and we access the multiverse hard drive so we can be conscious and it's encoded in symbols. Then, if we have done away with time and space as we know it, psychic connections are expected to explain how we make our way through "reality". Symbols are needed so we have ideas.

Then, are the intervening aliens a projection of us, working on ourselves?

If the whole UFO/apparition business were a psychic phenomenon, it would kind of explain a lot more. UFOs are obviously solid and leave trace evidence, people see angel hair, light, magic when there are apparitions - all real. But if it's coming "not from space aliens", but "here, us", it would explain all the magic and the psychic happenings.
I'm just quoting this here, because i thought these are extremely interesting points of view, and very valuable in relation to the explanation of the question where we came from and how we evolve.
Nature might be so much deeper and complicated then 'simple' Darwinism. I'm sure it is!

Crafth, thanks for the input.

It's all trying to figure out where the aliens come from, why are they here? And as we all know, once we started looking into that, we've seen there are all kinds of connections to weird happenings, seeing unexplainable creatures, religious apparitions and such which are right in there with the UFO material. Not always, but often.

And the UFO cover up and how it gets done is as big a part of UFO stuff as the sightings themselves.

So, I'm saying, let's say psychic stuff is all woven around appearances of ancient gods and fairies in the past, around religious apparitions, miracles and UFOs ans sometimes, UFO cover ups (some MIBs, for example). If so, the power people in charge may have gotten to realize this in the early days of UFOs and part of the desire to cover things up may be to keep people from thinking in a different way about the nature of reality.

Maybe not, they may just have thought saucers were men from space.

Anyway, since psychic happenings are interwoven with it all, are they, the aliens, or these beings here who pop in from other dimensions and realities, are they the psychic ones manifesting these things at us? Jacques Vallee (I mention him a lot, I think he is a pretty good UFO thinker) thinks yes. He writes about having run some statistics on what they do and he thinks it's a possibility they present scenes to shape peoples' thinking, maybe even evolve peoples' thinking about reality. If they have come in as ancient gods, which yes, you could make a case for, that would be an example of them doing that.

Or, maybe not, or maybe they are just bad, or like to be tricky, or some of them do, some don't.

But if somehow, humans have always projected them into being, rather than them coming in and being real, yet unreal and projecting things onto us, that would explain a lot too - people need gods, religious miracles and they accidentally make them - would explain why people see UFOs which are a little ahead of the technology of their time, but not too far ahead (phantom air ships, 1890s).

Nothing explains it all, though. Maybe they bring a 1960s saucer to Fatima, Portugal in 1913, maybe we project black triangles, maybe the Virgin did appear to Bernadette at Lourdes, maybe that little boy and girl in Scotland knew how bad the world was getting and their minds allowed them to see the fairies saying good bye, because any sensible fairies would do that.

A startling new discovery has been unearthed which threatens to rewrite just about everything we believe about human evolution. Conventional wisdom has us believe that we directly descended from Neanderthal Man - that maybe true (or not) but what is clear is that there was another type of early human around - one we have never even been aware existed before. DNA testing of a solitary finger found in Serbia shows that it is human but of a type unknown until now...

I read the article, thanks Ben. This little finger could be an important find. I like what the scientists were saying about different humans probably coexisting, same space, same time. Hooray for genetic sequencing!

As some of you know, an old friend of mine teaches physical anthro at a college here in southern California. I sent her the link to this article and asked her what she thought.

She said neanderthal and homo sapiens probably converged/coexisted in this area in Siberia and it's thought a lot of mutations and "strange" genetic blending took place there over the years. Neanderthal is thought to have been in that area first and for about 80,000 years, with homo sapiens being there for 40,000 years, part of the time overlapping with each other.

As for the bracelet, she said she thinks it would probably be from the finger-bone woman

Just looking at the news photo of that place, it's beautiful. People always choose aesthetics, stone age people, all peoples. For some reason, beauty, spirit, ease of making a land-living, that little place was a place to BE, meet people, find partners, have cute kids back in those days, I'll bet. With genetic sequencing recently showing us neanderthal had a strong brain language center akin to ours today, bet a lot of info, teaching, culture was exchanged there too.

The remarkable remains of two ancient human-like creatures (hominids) have been found in South Africa.

The fossils of a female adult and a juvenile male - perhaps mother and son - are just under two million years old.

They were uncovered in cave deposits at Malapa not far from Johannesburg.

Researchers tell the journal Science that the creatures fill an important gap between older hominids and the group of more modern species known as Homo, which includes our own kind.

The team has assigned the name Australopithecus sediba to their finds.

"It's at the point where we transition from an ape that walks on two legs to, effectively, us," lead scientist Professor Lee Berger of the University of the Witwatersrand told BBC News.

"I think that probably everyone is aware that this period of time - that period between 1.8 and just over two million years [ago] - is one of the most poorly represented in the entire early hominid fossil record. You're talking about a very small, very fragmentary record," he explained.

Stunning! Right on the heels of a superb find in Siberia, here comes a new, missing link time hominid!
